Here at The Market, we like to keep things as local as possible.  We’re always looking for new Michigan products to line our shelves with. We have a few different sparkling juices on hand, but the St. Julian Winery in Paw Paw, Michigan makes some of our favorites.  Having earned a laundry list of awards in both national and international competitions, it’s safe to say that they know what they’re doing.  St. Julian makes many different variations of their non-alcoholic juices.  Right now, we have a wide selection of their Sparkling products: Red Grape Juice, Raspberry Spumante, Wild Berry Spumante, White Grape Juice, and Pomegranate Blueberry Juice.

We're so excited for our wine tasting this Friday that we wanted to share some of the 30 wines we'll be featuring. Yes- 30 wines, all of them good, for only $24. We'll be spending the evening on the rarely-seen and almost-spooky second floor of the Ferndale Elks Lodge, right near Nine Mile and Woodward. Tickets are available at Western Market, or at the door if still available, and the event starts at 7 and goes until 10. On to the wines already:

Wine. We have a lot of it. And since we prefer limited-production wines crafted by grape-growers rather than million-bottle runs by huge companies, much of what we have isn’t seen very often. We also enjoy drinking wines from places that get overlooked, each of which has its own varieties, customs, and notable producers; but names like Bugey, Pineau d’Aunis, and Frappato don’t do much to let you know what the wine is really like, at least not until you’ve had a chance to familiarize yourself with them.

The holiday season is upon us!  Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which means there’s not much time left to get all you need to over-feed your loved ones.  We have plenty of items in stock and on sale for your dinner table, and for the rest of your home.  We will be closed all day on Thursday, but will be open on Friday from 8am until 6pm.

Huzzah! A Beaujolais Nouveau Worth Drinking!

If you shop here, you know that we're big Beaujolais nerds. Bright red
fruit flavors, fine tannins, fair prices... what's not to love?
Unfortunately, the familiar boo-juice for most people isn't the Cru
wines from the best villages, or even a good producer's basic
offering. No, most stores only stock the worst of the area- a
Beaujolais Nouveau from one of the big producers. Bottled within mere
months of harvest, nouveau (or "new") wines aren't inherently bad, but
the ones on most shelves are bland bananna-cherry tasting swill, more
wine cooler than actual wine.
